Well, it turns out, liver treats can actually be an incredibly healthy treat for your dog (and according to this article, healthy for you lot equally well!). When information technology comes to nutritive value, the liver packs in a ton of vitamins including A, B6, B12, C, and D, and other minerals such as riboflavin, selenium, zinc, phosphorus, fe, folate, niacin, etc.

This is exactly why liver treats have recently become the almost pop pick in the pet food category. It's of import not to go overboard with the treats and give them as a meal supplement. Also, it's important to make certain they accept a lot of fresh water available to them as these treats have very little wet in them.

So Why Brand These Liver Treats At Domicile?

Sure, you can always become your hands on 1 of the many commercially available dog treats, simply some of them are loaded with additives and preservatives to increment their shelf life and improve their flavour, and feeding them to your dog on a daily basis tin can be harmful in the long run.

In that location have been several instances where dog treats take been recalled for possible contagion, which is ever a risk when yous're opting for packaged treats.

These liver treats are, in contrast, easy to make, healthy, cheap, and condom for your furry friend.

Some other reason, THE Price!!

I can tell you that at the local grocery stores and pet stores around me, I tin can buy a package of dried liver treats for almost $11.78 for 150 grams! That'due south around 5 ounces or then.

Where, if you buy the raw liver from the meat department, you can purchase it raw for effectually simply over $4.oo a pound. Information technology might even be cheaper in your area!

Making Them Right

Making liver dog treats for your puppers is super like shooting fish in a barrel. All yous need to do is get some liver from your local grocery store or butcher's store, and chop it up into 1-2 inch chunks.

You might want to wear some plastic gloves when you handling the liver, Simply considering your fingers tin get kinda bloody from the liver, only if you don't care, no prob! (… later on the starting time time I did it, I didn't care anymore.. lol)

Lay them out on a baking pan, lined with parchment, (makes for piece of cake cleanup!) while y'all preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Popular the liver in and roast thoroughly.

At present turn downwards the estrus in your oven to the lowest setting to dehydrate and remove the moisture out of the liver. Read the recipe below for complete dehydration instructions.

Tips to Call up

Now that you're done whipping up the treats, make certain you recall to offer them to your dog in moderation. Liver may be the healthier pick as opposed to other dog treats available out there, but when consumed in large quantities, it might increase the risk of hypervitaminosis in your canis familiaris.

Liver contains an impressive corporeality of vitamin A, only offering it to your dog every at present then tin can requite him fashion more of the vitamin than his body needs, increasing the risk of vitamin toxicity.

Stick to iii-4 pieces of liver every week. ALWAYS give your pets treats under your supervision!

Storing Liver Dog Treats

I go on the treats I make for Bubba in a container in the fridge. I brand certain they're covered with a tight-plumbing equipment lid and have a piece of paper towel in the container to blot any possible moisture. They tin stay in the fridge for upwardly to a week to 10 days.

Desire To Freeze The Homemade Liver Treats?

I haven't done information technology, simply I'm certain it wouldn't be a problem. If I were to freeze them, I would place them in a freezer-safe container or bag, and include a piece of paper towel in the bag to absorb any extra moisture should there be any.

They should stay proficient in the freezer for up to a few months.

Tin I Make A Double Batch?

Ingredients

  • ane/ii lb raw beef liver *see notes
  • water for rinsing

Instructions

one. Preheat the oven to 350
2. Remove the liver from the bundle and rinse it with h2o. Tap water is fine. Using a precipitous knife, carefully cut the liver into pieces approximately 1.5 - ii" in size.
3. Place them on a parchment-lined baking canvas and roast for 30 minutes.
iv. When the roasting time is upwards, reduce the temperature on your stove to the everyman it tin can perhaps go. 190F or lower is platonic. (encounter notes).
5. Allow the treats dehydrate for 3 - v hours. The treats will darken to virtually a black color and become difficult.
6. Store them in an airtight container in the fridge. (see notes!!)

Notes

Rinsing the liver is an optional step. Sometimes if in that location is a lot of blood left in the packet, I will rinse the liver and pat dry with some kitchen paper towels.

If your oven doesn't have a dehydrate option, reduce the temp to every bit low as it will go and prop the door open up a few inches for the time you are dehydrating the treats.

If yous have admission to a countertop dehydrator, by all means, use that appliance. It will practice an crawly job on dehydrating your liver treats.

You want to be sure there is no remaining moisture in the treats to develop mold, hence storing them in the refrigerator.

Always give the treats nether supervision with plenty of fresh water nearby.
